The Kinney Story
The evolution of Kinney Construction Services, Inc. has been ongoing for the past 43 years. The journey began after I graduated from the College of Engineering at Northern Arizona University in 1982, during a recession when the unemployment rate was over nine percent. With a bit of luck, I was employed by a large Real Estate/Construction Company in New York City, and within one year, I became the founder and sole owner of West Contracting Corp., a general contracting and construction management firm in Manhattan. A promise to myself to return to Arizona came to fruition in 1995, and the sale of West Contracting Corp. to JT Magen was concluded in 1997. The same drive for excellence and client satisfaction that was key to West’s success is the very same drive that launched Kinney Construction Services. In 1999, Kinney Construction Services was incorporated and opened for business in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Over the past 26 years of operation, Kinney has grown into an award-winning general contracting, construction management, and design/build firm, performing work throughout the nation. With our headquarters in Flagstaff, we currently have operations in the Verde Valley and in Phoenix, Arizona.
And now, beginning on February 1, 2025, Kinney has become a 100% employee-owned company. Our team is now empowered to perform even greater than they did before. Our leadership team comprises the same individuals who have shaped Kinney into what it is today, having been with the company since its inception. This is an exciting time for Kinney Construction Services, marking the start of the next phase in our evolution. At Kinney, we constantly strive to be the best at what we do. We stay on the cutting edge of technology, management techniques, project delivery methods, and sustainability, both within our internal operations and within our construction projects. Our company culture and core values—integrity, forward-thinking, win-win partnerships, continuous improvement, and community impact — are reflected in all our projects.
This Kinney culture is not infused into the company through external means. It comes from within and is strongly embraced by every Kinney employee. In addition to our values, the experience, expertise, and hard work of the Kinney people are the real key to our success and the key to our future. They are the best in the business, and each one of our projects serves as testimony to that. We are a winning team, and our customers are part of that winning team.
In the construction industry, the past 26 years have been marked by significant progress, with the legislature’s acceptance of alternative project delivery methods in the public sector, the integration of new technologies with materials, products, and management techniques, and the incorporation of sustainability into project planning and construction. It is an exciting time in the industry, offering an opportunity for construction firms that appreciate working with their customers reciprocally and collaboratively, for the benefit of all, and sharing the achievements and rewards of a successful project.
The Kinney culture reflects these opportunities, allowing us to shine in what we do best: providing construction services of the highest quality in a win-win environment. Our team flourishes in this environment, as do I.
I am very proud of our organization, and I know that you will benefit from our values and expertise should you choose Kinney Construction Services as your partner for your next project. Thank you for viewing our website.
