The new Flagstaff Municipal Court Facility replaced a pair of obsolete, functionally inadequate buildings in downtown Flagstaff. The new facility serves as a catalyst for development on the northern edge of the historic downtown and creates a fitting new civic symbol for the courts and the city. The project kicked off with the demolition of the existing City-owned building on the site. The program of just over 40,000 GSF had to be accommodated on a small site of 27,440 SF, along with secure staff parking and a drive-thru sallyport. The compact organization, efficient layout, and judicious use of finishes, particularly for the public areas and courtrooms, helped the project effectively deal with a tight construction budget. Sustainability is also very important to the City, and the new facility is designed to meet Green Globes (3 Globes).
