The Coconino County Jail Expansion is a comprehensive Design-Build project, developed in collaboration with DLR Group. This strategic expansion focuses on improving the facility’s operational capacity and efficiency, ensuring a safer and more streamlined environment for both inmates and staff. The expansion includes two critical areas: a new medical clinic unit and a modernized release area. The new medical clinical unit is designed to enhance the medical screening and care processes. The newly designed intake and release area improves operational flow and safety.

The facility is designed with multiple smoke containment zones to ensure safe environments for inmates in adjacent areas, reducing the need for full evacuation during a fire. Constructed with non-combustible materials—including CMU, concrete, steel, and drywall—the building enhances structural fire safety. Additionally, the medical clinic includes negative-pressure containment rooms to isolate highly infectious diseases, helping protect the broader inmate population.
