Located in Seba Dalkai on the Navajo Indian Reservation, DINE Southwest High School is a charter high school that serves students from the Navajo Nation. The 6,000 SF, stand-alone building features: administrative spaces, flexible and functional teaching and administrative spaces, energy-efficient MEP Systems, exposed colored concrete floors, and glazing systems and overhangs/shades to control solar heat gain year-round.
Kinney collaborated alongside Navajo Land Management, BIA, IHS, Fire Marshall, and Navajo County. Sustainable features of the project included a 100% recyclable metal building in the future, metal roof with cool roof technology reflecting more sunlight and absorbing less heat, energy efficiencies with proper envelope insulation, and an extended life cycle with metal building materials.
