The new complex at Northern Arizona University (NAU) features a state-of-the-art 50-meter, 10-lane Olympic-sized pool, a 10-meter dive tower, and an expansive dive well. It also provides an on-campus home for the men’s and women’s tennis teams with six indoor and six outdoor courts. Kinney took on the responsibility of self-performing all earthwork and site utility tasks, which encompassed a wide range of work. This included site preparation, which involved the installation of new traffic signals, and extensive demolition of concrete, asphalt, underground electrical, water lines, storm drains, and irrigation systems.
In addition, the project saw the installation of 60,000 square feet of new concrete, the construction of over 1,400 linear feet of curb and gutter, and significant earthwork involving the cut and fill of 75,000 cubic yards of material. Kinney also installed new storm drain and sewer manholes, a 60-inch precast utility tunnel, 400 linear feet of water and chilled lines, fire hydrants, and 125 linear feet of sewer line. As part of the stormwater management, underground StormTech chambers and precast utility vaults for 30-inch pipe were installed. The project also involved the relocation of 220 linear feet of dual 12-inch chilled water lines and the lime stabilization of 40,275 cubic yards of existing unsuitable soils.
